Outstanding...I have two nephews "over there", though both return soon, and a son, off to Marine OCS shortly, so can't say "I know the feeling" quite yet, but have a general idea.

But, what I am really signing on to say is that I am deeply disappointed ("hurt" is just too mild) to note that with the return of Tito I have been singled out for "ignore, with prejudice."

How heart breaking...a crushing defeat for former PMs reveling in their retirement. How quickly doth the fame fade, glow dim...not a single remark about my lame, lefty leaning liberal atheistic views?

I put my tail between my legs and accept not defeat, but worse: anonymity. The shame.

[sorry, SDH; no hijack therein--just feeling sorry for myself]

I am glad you didn't mention anything else that might be shrinking, besides hairlines, my good man.

I really don't think you've left. You're still the power behind the throne.

A son off to Marine OCS? Quantico? Ummm ... oooo-ra.

My brother did that. He went off as a long-haired guy (though non-Deadhead) with a poster in his room saying "I think I'm allergic to mornings," and came back as a jarhead rising early, marching everywhere in the house (tromp tromp tromp), and ordering his friends -- I do mean ordering -- to build a patio for my folks. His soon-to-be-ex girlfriend went into shock, but my folks got a nice patio. So you may be in luck :-)

Oh it was shocking at first--suhc a surprise...I think he's read too much of my military history. To be sure, we want him to do what he wants to do, but lets face it, as Bill noted, he grew up in a house in which the wars have always been "understood", and thus "protested" (anyone steeped in military history knows we haven't handled recent conflicts well the past 60 yrs). Anyhow, it's more of a prove himself, do something constructive/active/physical with a smidge of patriotism thrown in...he's a fitness freak, and surpassed all the physical tests for each of the special forces like he was walking round the block; besides, he already has the tatoos, and he can handle venomous reptiles with ease.

Venomous reptiles, eh? We're traveling a bit in a week or two, and was just hearing stories last night (from someone visiting from the place we're going) about a cobra in a bedroom and a krait falling out of a potato sack. Hoo boy. A guy with Ranger skills who could handle venomous reptiles would be welcome company, LOL! The tattoos are optional.
